Real Weddings at The Granary Barns
Hannah + Tyler
24.10.21
Autumn wedding of dreams sums up Hannah & Tyler’s special day from October last year. This wedding was too good to not share so we have asked Hannah a few questions about their big day, giving you their story and some top tips from the real bride… Pop the kettle on or crack open the wine and have a read!
PICKING THE DRESS
Wedding dress shopping was a little different to expected due to being in the middle of the pandemic. Following getting engaged on Christmas day, I went to visit a friend in York and therefore had a very long train journey. Excitedly I bought a wedding magazine and on the first few pages saw the most beautiful dress. I immediately booked an appointment at Rosa Clara with my mum and nan and must have tried nearly every dress in the shop. Unfortunately, none of the dresses were exactly what I wanted. The wonderful ladies asked what parts I liked from the multiple dresses I had tried and they helped merge elements from two dresses to create my dream dress.
SUITED & BOOTED
From the start, we knew that we wanted dark suits and were considering a dark grey tweed. After trying on a few, Tyler decided to try a tux for comparison. The tux was a complete game changer and knew immediately that they was what he wanted. We hired the tuxes from Moss Bros which worked out well the groomsmen could get fitted in the shop most local to them… very useful when half your party live over 2 hours away.
THE VENUE & DECORATION
We visited 6 venues before finding the Granary Estates and had always found something that didn’t quite feel like ‘us’. When we first pulled up outside the venue we knew we wanted to book it right away. Meeting the GGs only made this decision easier for us as they were all so incredibly helpful and we knew they would make our day perfect – as they did! We kept the decoration quite plain to let the beautiful barns speak for themselves and opted for fairy lights, lanterns and foliage throughout.
FLOWERS
My bouquet was created by my nan from dried flowers so I could keep it forever. She began collecting and drying flowers and foliage months in advance before adding a few fresh flowers last minute. This was one of the best decisions of our day as is something we can keep forever.
Chloe from Willow and Wreath did the rest of our flowers and she was phenomenal! We had an initial consultation through email with Chloe where she asked for our vision and made suggestions for places to look for further inspiration too. When we met a few months before the wedding, she had so much advice to bring all our ideas to life. We had a mix of dried flowers and plenty of foliage…. And the most dreamy fairy-lit, foliage covered Moongate of dreams!
BRIDE SQUAD
My bride squad were simply wonderful! I had 4 bridesmaids and a bridesman to make up my bridal party. My mum, nan and mother-in-law also got ready with us the morning of the wedding. While getting ready, my mum, nan and mother-in-law had silky green dressing gowns, while the bridesmaids (and Bridesman!) wore black pyjamas.
For the wedding, we opted for forest green velvet and had the girls’ dresses made for us. They had fluted sleeves and were a relaxed fit which was lucky as a few months before the wedding we had the wonderful news that my sister-in-law was pregnant. Our Bridesman wore a forest green suit from ASOS to match the girls too.
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
We stumbled upon Natalie through Instagram and never looked anywhere else. She was incredible from the start: offering advice, sending sample wedding albums in the same season as our wedding and reassuring us that she was always on hand if we needed any planning help. Prior to the wedding, we had an engagement shoot which got us both comfortable with being in front of the camera and gave us a chance to get to know Natalie – it was a fun day and made us both way less nervous for all the cameras on the big day. A few weeks before the wedding, we sent Natalie a list of all the photos we would want on the day. This meant we got all the photos we wanted in good timing so could still enjoy the day. A few days following the wedding we received our wedding previews and have just received the full album and cannot put into words how happy we are with the final photos. We could not recommend Natalie more highly and have photos that allow us to relieve our day again and again!
TAKE MY ADVICE...
Enjoy every second as the day absolutely flies by!! I remember being so nervous and the day seemed like it would be so daunting with so many eyes on us, but I was just so incredibly happy being surrounded by everyone we loved. One of the best moments of the day was standing on the dance floor and looking out across the barn to see the room full of all the people we love laughing and smiling.
